Name: Pounce of the night frog
Age: fifteen moons
Gender: Tom
Rank: Prey Hunter
Clan: Tribe
Appearance:
Well Pounce, as the Tribe calls him, was defiantly born a prey hunter. His body never really looked like it grew up. It could just be the way he moves, it looks more limber then other cats his age. Indeed, Pounce is incredibly flexible though it’s a skill he doesn’t often use. But it does always make him look younger then his age. His back bone and shoulders just seem to have a particular slide, a loser wobble then other cats. He also had a habit of laying in interesting positions one being in a tight ball with a hind leg over his head. Or on his back with his hind legs flat against the ground.
He never got really big for another thing, Pounce isn’t not only shorter then other cats, he also isn’t as long or wide. Compared to his body size though, he’s got quite long legs. They are clearly covered beneath in muscle and tend to ripple a bit as he stalks. This hunter tends to be one of the most quiet cats in the mountains, prey never even knows what hits it. He moves on large oval pads, the front two of which are albino white.
Above his figure, Pounce has a thick layer of fur. Unlike other pelts every strand is about the same length and has no under or over coat. It’s made up of fluffy short threads of various colors. In general his front legs, right side, and back are all frosty white. Other places are spread with peach orange and soot to jet black colors. Near his eyes the peach hint takes presidents with a peach patch hovering above his on his forehead and under his chin. The tones band down his tail and his hind back legs. They are hidden on the left side of his fur and streak crazily there. Depending on how he sits, Pounce can look like a totally different cat.
His eyes surprisingly enough are a dark almost reddish amber, though one might have expected them to be some shade of blue. They have no flecks or streaks within there depths and are just a single color. Nearer to his iris though the color fades a bit and loses it’s reddish tint. The eyes themselves are very rounded almond and look kit like.
Large ears top his face. Near the base there quite wide and hold true to this line until right at the top where at the last second they curve in and form a nice rounded point. Like his eyes they can be described as almondish. He has particularly thin wishers each or wish are short and white. They frame his triangular nose. It’s two colors matching his chin with blue black patches surrounded by a pleasant pink. He isn’t a fighter and has gained to scares anywhere though it’s likely his ears will find some as he gets older.
Personality:
It would be hard to call Pounce a perfect tribe cat. Sure he loves to hunt, and is by all means very good at it. I mean, with his skill this tabby can pick out and pin all sorts of prey. The tribe would never go hungry if every cat could hunt as well as Pounce. Even in the dead of winter his bounty is impressive. He has a certain style to his hunting. Loves to just wonder in the way he can without making a sound. Then when he gets sign of prey he merely goes and gets it. It’s not really a dedicated way of doing things but he just doesn’t need to spend all the effort other cats do.
Like I said though. Not in any way a perfect tribsman. At one time this skilled hunter had dreamed of being a cave guard. He was so sure this was his path that in secret Pounce tried to learn to fight and protect. Unfortunately for him, this wasn’t the way of the tribe. They discovered his secret doings and Pounce was forced to accept what he was. It turned out he was an excellent hunter. Though his heart loved the freedom of roaming for prey, it felt like he should know how to fight. He didn’t mind being protected by Cave guards most of the time but Pounce wanted deeply to be able to take care of himself.
So other then these things that have played a major role in his life, Pounce is a generally calm soul. He is quiet when it comes to conflict. When the Tribe put him in his place Pounce barely said a word. The lime light isn’t for him and many a time he has slipped past the guards just to go off by himself into the wilderness to listen. Listening in fact, is something he does often. Its true that Pounce knows a lot from what others didn’t want him to hear. But it’s not like he tells anyone, it’s all kept to himself anyways.
Though he barely breaths a word when superiors are around, little Pounce doesn’t like having to fall in line with what others say. He has a bit of a big head, in that he believes he’s smarter then others. It’s because of this that he doesn’t like taking orders though he’ll do so without any fight.
These deep misgivings have given Pounce a kind of cool aura about him. Often cats find him seeming distant and distracted. Many don’t think he’s someone to be relied upon. They would be right for sure. He’s not the hero type and would just as soon shy away from doing great deeds. For this, Pounce dislikes himself. He wants to be the cat others look up to but doesn’t have that kind of personality.
One day, Pounce will leave the Tribe. He plans to go down to the clans land and find himself. It certain he doesn’t like who he is but how to change himself isn’t something he knows how to do. Of course he plans to return to, some day, although when he comes back many cats will probably trust him less then ever. Pounce has kind of a slinking look about him that he can’t escape. He is trying to be better but that could be a long time coming.
History:
BIRTHDAY| It was some time ago last late summer that Pounce came into the world. He was a kit of many sisters and brothers, 6 in all. Four were lovely ladies and three were male. There mother was a totally white queen called White that colors thin ice. She was just White to them though. There father was Leaf that slides from twigs and had a pelt of many different colors. The parents were good to there numerous children, Pounce was second to last of the litter. His name was given due to no real inspiration as two of his sisters were called Spring and Leap. It is a fact Pounce never forgets.
KITHOOD| It wasn’t that he was ignored or no loved. Pounce just never felt at home amongst his family. His older and single younger brother were both muscular and strong. They had tons of energy and had the brawn to use it in every way. Pounce had none of this and was often found lethargically lying about. He dreamed of fighting cats. And these dreams he would carry with him forever, even as he slept while this brothers tumbled and play fought. Pounce didn’t join in or do anything to build up his strength.
His younger days were extremely unexciting. To every cat in the tribe Pounce couldn’t have been more boring. His pelt was obvious and typical, his behavior seemed lumpish to them. Rarely speaking or causing any attention to be brought to himself. He gave others no reason to want to be around him and was provided with little in the way of compliments or friends. Still, he was lonely and felt others disliked him for no reason. In general the beginning of his life was spent alone, his parents to preoccupied with his siblings to encourage him to grow.
When his fifth moon came some cat finally mentioned to Pounce that if he actually did something he’d be big and strong and would be a cave guard like his brothers. For one, Pounce was outraged and stunned. He caused an uproar over what his future career would be thinking that he was destine to fight like a cave guard. Everyone else saw how small he was and disagreed saying he’d just have to accept it.
Obviously Pounce did not just accept it. He began to work out as hard as he could each day. It hurt bad for him to do so much but Pounce was desperate. He also hated it. Doing work wasn’t really for him, so he felt. He didn’t like that the others were making him do this and began to rather resent them. Yet he continued to dislike his situation and to exercise until he cried.
TO BE| Despite everything, even the results he saw, Pounce was relegated into being a Prey hunter. It was something he took to right away and seemed to need little training in. Other cats were happy he’d found something to be good at and they assumed he’d perhaps smile for and be more sociable. But this wasn’t the case. Inwardly he felt it was there fault he had to hunt. If some cat had just told him sooner he’d be whirling in battle practice and could be a proud defender of the Tribe.
When he thought back though, he was more angry at himself then any one in the cave. Pounce hated wasting time and yet when he looked back it was clear that was all his kit hood had been, one big waist that led him to where he was today. This fact as the thought it ate at his heart and cats from then on just left Pounce alone to be miserable.
Feeling that he had to make up for what he caused himself, Pounce began to secretly train as a cave guard. It wasn’t that he was bad at it either. As it turned out Pounce could use is small size and agility as a big advantage in his own practice battles. Slowly, he became more and more happy with himself and his secret. For a short time he became the cat he wanted to be and would even chat with the other To Be’s.
But the time came that other members of the tribe, Pounces family to be specific discovered that he was actually getting good at learning to fight. They became worried and told the Stoneteller who talked to Pounce with some choice stern words. Pounce, having not fought back found himself still well on the way to becoming a Prey hunter. This would turn out to be another reason why he doesn’t like himself. Pounce feels he failed to take charge and change his own life, like he let the change slip away.
So for the rest of his time as a To Be going on Prey Hunter Pounce spent life alone. He deeply regretted where he’d gotten himself. It hurt because he could give the blame to no one else. Feeling smothered, he decided some time near the end of his training to leave to Tribe temporarily. He wanted to travel south and out of the mountains, with plans to return when he feels he’s a cat worthy of there company.
PREY HUNTER| The day he became an official prey hunter was also the day Pounce intended to leave. It didn’t really work out as planned and he found himself still in the cave weeks later. For once though, he recognized this was his moment. He was going to have to do something or be unable to live with himself any more. So on graceful paws, Pounce departed.
The Journey down the mountain proved very easy for Pounce. It was quiet and he for the first time in his life he was alone. He had some small semblance of fighting skills and could easily hunt for himself. Things proved to move fast and currently he is on the outskirts of the clans, wondering. He wants to become a better cat and has plans to return to the tribe some time soon.
