A young she-cat padded silently through the forest. She was on her way to Tallpines for some well deserved hunting. The grayish she-cat blinked her leaf green eyes and took a deep breath. Mice and other prey shocked her senses and she gave a purr of joy. There was enough prey here to last for several sunrises. She lowered her body into a hunter's crouch and stalked forward. A clump of bracken quivered and the she-cat pin-pointed her prey. She crept forward and then leapt. The mouse didn't even have to squeak before it was dead and buried for later.
The she-cat lifted her ears. A voice seemed to be calling her name, 'Ivyhawk. Ivyhawk. Ivyhawk.' over and over again. Just her name and in a steady chant.
"Hello?" Ivyhawk called out, "Is any cat there?" The she-cat listened, but the chanting stopped. Ivyhawk shivered with nervousness. She unburied her mouse and left the place. As soon as she was a safe distance away she reburied her mouse. The air was still and all the animals seemed quiet. Ivyhawk was confused. A good day like this should be filled with bird calls and other noises. Not even the dogs and Twolegs were making any noise.
